Nine years!

This week marks nine years since I began blogging with my first post having been published on February 9th, 2013.  And incredibly since then, I have been coming to you every Sunday morning for the past 468 weeks.  Those that have followed me for several years now know why I post on Sundays but for those of you that may be new to my site, I post on Sundays in honor of my dad who was a Presbyterian minister for over 40 years.  Since he brought a weekly message to his congregation each Sunday morning for over 2,000 times, I thought I would follow in his tradition.

This week also marks the second year in a row that I have posted throughout the pandemic.  I suspect the pandemic has in many ways, impacted my fellow bloggers just like it has me.  Travel in the past, has been one of my most prolific categories and while we were able to travel some in 2021, it nowhere near achieved the amount of travel I have done in the past.

Looking back over my previous 52 posts by blog category, I see that I wrote about Art once, Books four times, Travel twelve times, Memories three times and Entropy (randomness) five times.  My biggest category by far by a factor of more than 2:1 (twenty-seven) covered what most all of us have been doing since the pandemic—staying At Home.

And a large number of those “At Home” posts (almost half) involved building miniature models, either doll houses, boats or airplanes.  When I first started blogging, I had no idea I would write so often about miniature models.  But since I have, I decided this year to add a new category of Miniature Models to make it easier to search on past posts for those of you, like myself, that love scale models.  I even went back and added this as a second category for those previous posts.

As I have written in years past, part of my purpose in this particular post is to also take the time to extend a big THANK YOU to all my dedicated readers out there, some I know who have followed me for the entire nine years.  Thanks for your continued interactions, your thoughtful comments, and even your occasional suggestions about a topic.  Knowing that you are connecting to me through these posts continues to be an inspiration for me to continue this effort.

And to my new readers as well as occasional readers that found my site last year, while every topic I write about may not have been of interest to you, it is still rewarding to know that you are enjoying even one or two.  I never got into this for the “numbers” so know that each and every one of you are appreciated.  Whenever I discover a new follower, I immediately go to your blog, and I am always amazed at how professional they look.  I find it truly an honor that you took the time to stop by my simple little blog, which is pretty basic in design.  I hope you continue to read and enjoy my future posts and I will frequent yours as well as often as I can.

So, in closing, as most of you already know by now, I love cars and love to drive and have often used these rides as a metaphor for my posts.

So, thanks for coming along for the ride so far.  I hope it will continue to be an enjoyable journey for you.

Here’s to another fun year.  Cheers!

  1. Happy Blog-iversary, Bro! (Yikes! Just made that up.) Thanks for keeping the stories coming to us. I’m inspired to go back and read your first post, as that was before I began reading along. I was happy to see that the two photos of you in today’s post were from our BroGo adventures together! So with that…Cheers!

  2. Happy Blogversary, David. I am glad I found your blog. Your miniature work inspires me to a new level. Your recent post reminded me of my previous forgotten desire to give each of our kids (grown) a book at Christmas. You made me resolve to never get a pool. And yes, while not every one of your posts interests me (craft beer specifically) I enjoy reading your posts and your blog adds to my life. Thank you. You honor your father with your weekly blog. You raise your beer; I’ll raise my diet coke – Here’s to a great blogging year ahead.

    • Thanks, Betty for your most kind words. I am happy you have found value in my posts and I am so glad we found each other’s blogs as I enjoy reading yours as well (and I’m really enjoying you relive your Europe tour). I will be happy to toast you with your Diet Coke and as my brother and I often say to each other, Cheers!
