11th Anniversary – About New

This week marks eleven years since I began blogging with my first post having been published on February 9^th, 2013, and to mark this anniversary, I thought it was about time for me to provide an update.

About (pun intended) eight months ago, I was talking with my brother about choosing a theme for the upcoming launch of his blog, a-picture-and-a-thousand-words, and I was going over some of the links on my blog website.  He was telling me about some of the options he was considering when he commented that the ABOUT link had disappeared from my blog when I switched themes (sorry for using about so much).

In 2018, I switched from my original WordPress theme to one I thought would make it easier for someone to navigate a website that featured a large number of posts (572 with this post).  Rather than having to scroll through the entire post for every one of them, this new theme included a thumbnail photo and just a short exert from the post.  At the time (and up until that conversation with my brother), I never realized that my ABOUT link had disappeared.

We talked about this, and he said with what he had learned about WordPress, he could show me how to get that back.

After we ended our call, I searched and found that original ABOUT post and reading through it, I realized just creating a new link to it was pointless because it was so out of date.  I started this blog in February of 2013 and as the saying goes, “a lot of water has gone under the bridge” since.  And after my brother’s blog launched on 02 July 2023 and I clicked on and read his About Me and his About This Blog, I knew I could do better than what I had originally written in 2013.

So first, let me says thanks to my brother for that conversation about eight months ago (there I go again with about) and thanks for the inspiration through your own writings for me to update my website with these missing features.

About a month ago (sorry for another about), he followed through on that promise.  Over a lengthy FaceTime call, he talked me through what I needed to do to create and publish these along with featuring them at the top of my website.  With this post, I am highlighting that I have added an all-new About Me that provides some background information about who I am and an all-new About This Blog that explains how I got started blogging and for what reasons (some of you may have already discovered these two new additions as they went live—you guessed it—about a month ago).

For someone new to my site, this should give them more information about why they might want to return to my site for future posts.  And for those of my long-term, dedicated readers (you know who you are), it may simply confirm most of what you already know.  Either way, hopefully you will find it to be useful information.

Each year as I mark the anniversary of my blogging, I always want to extend a big THANK YOU to my dedicated readers, my followers, as well as my occasional readers, who were it not for your continued intertest, your interactions, and your thoughtful comments, I would just be writing a personal diary.  I am truly honored that you take the time to stop by my humble little blog and I hope you continue to read and enjoy my future posts.

So, in closing, as most of you already know by now, I love cars and love to drive and have often used these rides as a metaphor for my posts.

So, thanks for coming along on this now 11-year ride so far.  I hope it will continue to be an enjoyable journey for you.
